Lay You Down
Words and music by Richard S. Grossman
Lay You Down is a lullaby for grown-ups. It’s my “we’re all going to be alright” song ⏤ my reminder never to give up hope and to never fear failure. Most importantly, it reminds me to strive to live each moment with all the passion I can muster because they flash into our consciousness and then slip away in a heartbeat.
I dedicate this song to all the restless, sleepless children of the wanderlust brigade. May you always follow the light to find your way back home.
A very special thanks to Kenni Holmen for his artistry, soulfulness and amazing freaking tone on the soprano. Kenni, you are a joy to work with and the consummate pro. Let’s do it again soon.
There’s a light that shines for every one of us
So bright, at times we look away
There’s a risk of giving in to our wanderlust
A fear, of living life that way
You know, it’s up to you, to live the life you choose
But you can’t win unless you sometimes lose
So lay you down, rest your weary head
And close your eyes, sweet dreams tonight instead of feelin’ blue
Feel this moment now, before it slips away
There’s a time, a time when you’ll discover that
It’s not so hard to make it through these darker days
There’s a path, that’s traveled by a sacred few
So close to you, you’ll always find your way
But rest now, you sleepless child, and put to bed your inner wild
Dreams of wonder, dreams of happiness
Just lay you down, rest your weary head
And close your eyes, sweet dreams tonight instead of feelin’ blue
Feel this moment now, before it slips away
And if ever I should see you
Acting like you didn’t care
I will fill you up; drink from the lovin’ cup
The magic potion if you dare
